How to Perform Exchange BKF Recovery when You Encounter ‘The fixed media is full’ Error

Microsoft Windows facilitates you a built-in backup utility named as NTBackup. With the help of NTBackup, you can create and maintain the backup of your crucial files like Exchange Server data on another drive of your system or on some other data storage media in the form of .BKF file. However, if your data storage media or hard drive partition is formatted in FAT file system, then you may encounter BKF file corruption due to size limit. FAT (especially FAT32) file system based data storage devices can store BKF file of only 4GB in size and if your BKF in FAT exceeds this limit, then it gets corrupt and you may get an error message while adding new data or restoring data from it.

Let us understand it with a practical example. Suppose, you have FAT32 file system based external hard drive on which you have created the backup of your Exchange Server data through NTBackup utility. The size of your Exchange BKF file increases with time as you keep on adding new data, and another day when you tried to add some new files to it, you encountered the below mentioned error message:

“[Insert media]
The fixed media is full. You cannot Back Up all of the specified data to this disk device.
The backup operation will stop.”

This error occurs because of the exceeded size of your Exchange BKF file, which is 4GB for FAT32 formatted storage media. To prevent this error from occurring, it is recommended to create the backup on NTFS file system formatted data storage device or NTFS formatted hard drive partition. However, in this situation, when you got this error message and lost all your precious Exchange Server data, use of a professional Exchange BKF recovery software is recommended.

Reliable Exchange BKF recovery software efficiently repairs Exchange BKF files, recovers corrupt .EDB, .STM, and .Log files from the backup. If you do not know the location of your BKF file, then it enables searching of this file in a specific drive or volume and lets you recover data from large BKF files (as in this case). Moreover, you can save the scan information in a .txt file and use it to start the recovery process at any later time. The log report created by an effective Exchange BKF recovery tool enables you to keep the track of all the activities performed by the application. Additionally for any future reference, you can save this log file in .txt format as well.
